aimee + brian : 2010.2.12

Who would’ve predicted that after a winter of virtually no snow two days before Aimee and Brians wedding we got 2 feet of it dumped on us. That didn’t discourage Aimee though she totally made the best of it and still ventured outside for some real quick photos. We went directly to the Harbor Club on Glenn Island for the photos and arrived just in time before the sunset. Anthony Petrozza was shooting second camera and was extremely helpful when Aimee’s vail fell out in the wind and her hair needed a quick fix. Nice to have a professional hair stylist on the hand all day!

BEST OF 2009 : the crew

If I’ve shot your wedding, undoubtedly you’ve seen the camera turned on me or ronnie and actually anybody that works with us. Its part of the job to photograph and be photographed! If it wasn’t for these photos I dont think anyone would believe what we go through to get the shot. So this third installment is of us and the craziness that we put ourselves through for all of you.
One more thing, you are going to see a lot of me posing thats done so we can check to see if the death defying spots we are putting you guys in is worth it. And of course it is! Oh and the music is from the greatest movie ever!

Sunset Cove : Tarrytown

I was asked be the owners of Sunset Cove in Tarrytown to photograph the restaurant and executive chef today for their new website. Tommy (one of the owners) and I worked together at my uncles restaurant Alex and Henry’s in Eastchester in the early 90’s and we occasionally see each other at events and things. Most recently tommy was a guest at Lisa and Justins wedding where I showed one of my slide shows during dinner and he asked if I could help with a project he was working on. They redesigned the interior of sunset cove and wanted something different to show it off. We decided to shoot the kitchen staff hard at work and thought it would give a different look to the overdone restaurant interiors you always see on restaurant websites. I had a lot of fun with this shoot and wanted to share it. As soon as the weather warms up and your looking for some place to relax give sunset cove a shot (I’m sure most of you already have) you will love it. And yes I did shoot a simple interior today to show off the amazing view this restaurant has. Its actually right under the bridge. So amazing!

Good thing come to those who wait!

Real quick story.
When I moved my business back to Bronxville six years ago I rented a small room (you all probably met me in it.) As time went on that small studio space started to get cramped. First I hired Ronnie then came Jason, Nancy, Kerry and Anthony. I’m going to need more space. I always had me eye on the office next to mine, after all there was a door leading from mine to it, but its was rented and stayed rented until last month. The “for rent” sign was up for a few hours before I contacted the landlord. Well it took a few days of negotiations and then it was mine! I’m so excited to show everyone the progress on the space. I will post some photos as I renovate it. When I signed the lease the walls were beige and the floor was carpeted. I will spare you all the photos of that nastyness! Here are a few that I took during the sanding of the floors. Im staining the floor black.

The best of engagement contest is over and…

Wow that got heated. I actually blocked comments for the below post in order to not let this get any more attention, I also removed some of the comments.

Plus for family and friends of Nicole #7 I spoke with her and offered her the canvas of her choice at my cost! My intention was to have a little fun with this not create a bride war : )

So yes #9 Christina and Mike you guys are the winners and you get a free 24×36 canvas gallery wrap.

The lesson learned here is that viral marketing is a power not to be reckoned with!
The next series of photos will be a best of weddings 2009 with no voting! Stay tuned.

  1. Can’t wait for the best of weddings!

    Comment by Maria—January 20th, 2010 @ 3:11 pm |
  2. Good thing you blocked the comments because things got a little crazy below ! You’re an awesome photographer and I pretty much stalk your blog weekly (when its the season) because your photos are truly captivating. I love your work !

    Comment by Tina—January 20th, 2010 @ 9:47 pm |
  3. It’s nice of Ricky to offer Nicole a “consolation” gift. Still, #9 won fair and square. Both couples had friends and family voting, as their votes changed by the MINUTE. As you said, this was supposed to be fun. If anyone had hurt feelings over who won, they should not have taken this SO seriously. Nobody likes a sore loser.

    Comment by Karen—January 21st, 2010 @ 9:03 am |
  4. Congrats to couple #9! Thanks Ricky that was fun! Thank You for your offer to Nicole & Anthony. All the pictures were beautiful, lots of luck to all the bride& grooms on their upcoming weddings! Can’t wait to see all the wedding photos.

  5. Congrats to #9!It was amazing how many people were actually voting, we actually had people in Italy voting!!This blog was being networked everywhere and so many people were introduced to Ricky’s website and were amazed by his work! But it was great and we had a lot of fun. I hope there are no sore losers!! This was just a fun contest. Thanks Ricky for the canvas at cost!! That was great :) Congrats to all brides to be!!!

    Comment by Nicole—January 21st, 2010 @ 1:07 pm |
  6. Thank you Ricky for having this contest; it was so much fun. Congrats to couple # 7, you really were great competition. It was amazing how many voters we had and I am really happy you guys got your canvas–it was well deserved:) Ricky you are the best:)

Engagement Sessions - best of 2009

I’m planning on a few slide show galleries for the small break before I start shooting weddings again.
My plans are a best of weddings and a crew working slide show they are both planned for later this month.

But first I want to have a little fun with the engagement sessions I did this past year. This will be a best of that I leave up to my faithful blog readers to choose. You guys pick the winning image, and the couple who’s image is selected gets a free canvas gallery wrap. (24×36). In order to be fair I selected one image from each session I shot. (if I left someone out please let me know)

Let the voting begin!

I know, its been a while!

I just looked at my last blog post and realized its been a long time.

Truthfully I needed to reset. In total last year Ronnie, Jason and I shot almost 100 weddings.
That might not seem like a lot but think about that!
Anyway, Im back and totally refreshed. I spent the last few weeks with Gretchen and Stella oh and Cath : )
For those of you who did not receive a christmas card from us here it is.
As usual its not your typical card. And no the stuffed animals were not in the original picture.

frontcardr

So this new year has presented some huge opportunities for me and the studio.
First off I will be welcoming two new photographers to the team.
Anthony Petrozza is joining as a main photographer and will be shooting his own weddings starting mid year.
We just shot his head shot for the website. Everyone say hi to Anthony!

anthony-bw

This means that the studio will now be able to accomodate three weddings in one day.
No more sad faces when the phnoe rings and I’m not available!

Anthony brings a refreshing new approach to the mix and I will be sure to point out all of his work as the new year unfolds.
And in a few days I should have his about page up and a gallery of last years images posted.

Next is a second shooter who has been interning at the office for the past year.
Kerrie Sansky has assisted me and also has shot second camera throughout 2009
Kerrie joins as a second shooter for 2010.
Sorry no photo of Ms. Sansky yet : (

This new year will also have Ronnie and I traveling for a few weddings including an event overseas.
In August we will shoot in Gozo, Malta.
For those of you not familiar with Malta its one of Europe’s smallest countries and is located off the coast of Italy.
Before I signed the contract to shoot the wedding there I did a little bit of research and was totally blown away with how beautiful the country is.
Im really looking forward to this experience.

So hang on everyone this year is going to be as huge as the last two years and I promise to keep it interesting.

Ricky

Edited to add
Thats right I forgot to mention that in the next few days I will be posting a best of 2009. Plus a little slide show of me and the crew risking our lives to get some awesome images for all of you!

  1. How about a recap of all the 2009 weddings ! :)
